The lift from the top basin

The guillotine gates on the left have been raised to let us pass across the aqueduct to the lift.

Approaching the lift

Narrowboat crossing the aqueduct and heading for the left hand caisson. Operators cabin can be seen ahead.

Entering the lift

Moving onto the lift beneath the operators cabin.

Descending the lift

Looking back the operators cabin can be seen high above and the other caisson is on its way to the top on the left. The two guillotine gates holding back the upper waters can be clearly seen.

Hydraulic ram

Bottom of the lift

Looking back towards the operators cabin with the underside of the right caisson, hydraulic ram and cross support clearly visible. The right caisson is almost at the top now.

Leaving the lift

The guillotine gates on the caisson and at the bottom of the lift have been raised and the River Weaver awaits!
