Questions about Anderton Boat Lift.
How
long does the lift and river trip last?
About 40 minutes for each trip. When you buy a Lift trip or River trip
ticket this includes the grounds, Weight Maze, play area and exhibition
that could last for approx. 1 hour. A lot of our visitors like to make a
day of it and bring all the family!
You are not limited to the length of time you spend at Anderton boatlift
we have plenty for you to learn see and do so why not make a day of it.
Are
the River and Lift Trips combined?
No, but you can combine both if you wish. the River trip is 40% less of
the cost of the Lift trip. If you wish to know the prices, these are
available on the prices and calendar on the
Visitor page.
Are
you disabled friendly?
Yes we fill all disabled persons needs. We have an accessible lift that
will take you from the top level to the bottom floor of the Centre, where
the Exhibition is. There are also disabled toilets on the upper level and
the lower level of the operations centre and also on our trip boat. We
also have an accessible lift that will take you on and off our trip boat.
We can provide Tactile maps for the blind or partially sighted, the maps
can be requested from the welcome desk.
Are
dogs allowed?
Sorry, the Anderton Boat Lift has a NO
DOGS policy, the only exception being Guide Dogs.
Can
I Book tickets to go through the lift and/or along the River?
We only take bookings for 12 people or more. So why not get together
a group of 12 or more and receive our group rate, if you wish for
more information on our group bookings or would like to
provisionally book a group of 12 or more please call the Anderton

Do
you have a café where I can get lunch?
We have a café where you can buy arrange of freshly made sandwiches snacks
a variety of soups and hot and cold drinks. There is also our gift shop
that also sells ice creams and confectionery.
What
is it, is it a lock or a lift.?
The Anderton Boatlift is a 60ft high hydraulic lift system, which
transports narrow boats, working boats, and trip boats from the Trent and
Mersey canal to the River Weaver, and from the River weaver to the Trent
and Mersey Canal. The Anderton boatlift was built in 1875 the gentleman
that designed the lift was called Edwin Clarke. If you would like more
