A Victorian Masterpiece

This workshop looks at the Victorian period, in which the lift was built. We study the people who worked and used the lift during this time and what there lives were like and the impact of the lift. Handling objects and looking at the clothes these people wore helps to bring them to life and provides a connection to the past. Children will have an opportunity to create a peg doll dressed in the appropriate costume for profession and era.

NC: Hist 1a, 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 3, 4a, 5b, 5c, 7, 8a, 11a

QCA: History Unit 12 How did life change in our locality in Victorian times?

History Unit 18 What was it like to live here in the past?

Is it a Work of Art?

Taking a different slant on the boat lift, looking it as a work of art, this workshop will look at colour, line and texture. The children will look at the work of other artists to help them produce their own interpretations of the Anderton Boat Lift. Children will develop skills in the media with which they are working and produce some final pieces which can be taken back to share at school.

NC: Art 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c, 4a, 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d

This workshop can be linked to QCA and Cheshire Art Schemes.
