A Victorian Masterpiece
This workshop looks at the Victorian period, in which the lift was built. We study the people who worked and used the lift during this time and what there lives were like and the impact of the lift. Handling objects and looking at the clothes these people wore helps to bring them to life and provides a connection to the past. Children will have an opportunity to create a peg doll dressed in the appropriate costume for profession and era.

Floating and Sinking
In this session we will look at the boats used on Trent & Mersey and the River Weaver. We will cover what makes boats float. Why they are shaped as they are and what makes a good shape to travel through water. We will discuss the specific shapes of boat used on the local waterways and why they were the best for this area. We go on to look at the impact of loading a boat with cargo. Children will also get the opportunity to create and test their own boat.

Is it a Work of Art?
Taking a different slant on the boat lift, looking it as a work of art, this workshop will look at colour, line and texture. The children will look at the work of other artists to help them produce their own interpretations of the Anderton Boat Lift. Children will develop skills in the media with which they are working and produce some final pieces which can be taken back to share at school.
